My son was given the assignment at school to pick his 4 grandparents back to entry into the US. My mother was easy to do because her grandfather came from Bohemia at age five because the country collapsing. I knew nothing about my father's family except his father's which was Frank Roy Holmes and that he had at least 3 brothers. It turns out that he is the youngest son of Charles Tarbell Holmes. I am certain of that now that I found your site and you listed my Dad's half-sister Gertie (Gertrude Holmes in Montana). Would love to know anything you could tell about how my great grandfather ended up in Illinois.
