Today is Treasure Chest Thursday. For today, I chose the death certificate for my grandfather, John Frank. He passed away less than 1 year before I was born. I wish I could have met him.
As mentioned here, he had a hard life. He served in the Hungarian army during World War II. After the Germans took over, he was forced into their armed forces and fought against the Soviet Red Army. He was severely wounded in the Siege of Budapest, and narrowly escaped with his life. After all the turmoil he and his family endured in Hungary and Germany, he brought them to the United States and settled in the Chicago area in 1952, working as a bricklayer and plasterer.
Here is his death certificate:

A lot of family history there.
